The European Commission and non-governmental organization Global Citizen during the international online marathon raised another € 6.15 billion to develop a vaccine against coronavirus. This was announced by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen in the social network.
During the marathon, the European Commission promised to allocate € 4.9 billion. German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced that Germany would provide an additional € 383 million. Other major donations came from the United States and Canada.
The World Health Organization estimates that more than $ 31 billion is needed to develop a vaccine and find effective drugs for coronavirus.
